About Steven
I am a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who works with individuals age 13 and older. I have an enormous passion for individuals suffering with trauma, grief, personality distress, and substance abuse.
As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, I perform psychiatric evaluations and assessments, treatment plans, medication management, psychotherapy, and genetic testing. My patient care is built on empathy, compassion, and evidence-based practices. I believe that every person has a unique story, therefore treatment deserves individualized care.
I became a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to treat emotional pain, assist clients and their families adapt to mental health changes, and to normalize mental health in our community. I use a team-based approach to mental health where the client’s experience and the provider’s skills meet to create the greatest results.
Experience
I have been a Registered Nurse for eight years. I have worked in the medical field for sixteen years in a variety of settings including psychiatry, medical/surgical, and acute rehabilitation. I have worked at non-profit and government funded organizations, and for the last seven years I have worked at the University of Kansas Health System.
Education
I received a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing at the University of Kansas School of Nursing and a Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Philosophy of Practice
As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I strive for understanding, empathy, and reason in my work with all clients. I dedicate myself to compassionate care, empathetic communication, and integrity by practicing psychiatric care with beneficence, ethical judgment, and veracity.
